Important Notice Regarding SSAT Test on April 17, 2010

Dear SSAT test-taker and parents/guardian,

Thank you for registering for the April 17, 2010 administration of the Secondary School Admission Test (SSAT). Please note that, due to the large number of test-takers, the SSAT will be held in two separate rooms at The Chinese University of Hong Kong.


TESTING LOCATION

Please read the following information to find your assigned test room at the Lady Shaw Building:

If you are a Lower Level (Grades 5-7) test-taker:
Please go to the Lecture Theatre 1, Lady Shaw Building.

If you are an Upper Level (Grades 8-11) test-taker:
Upper Level test-takers with Surname/Family Name beginning with the letters A to J¡V please go to the Lecture Theatre 1, Lady Shaw Building.
Upper Level test-takers with Surname/Family Name beginning with the letter K to Z¡V please go to the Lecture Theatre 6, Lady Shaw Building.

(e.g. If the test-taker¡¦s name is Tommy CHAN and he is in Grade 9, his testing location is the Lecture Theatre 1, Lady Shaw Building. If the test-taker¡¦s name is Susan WONG and she is in Grade 10, her testing location is the Lecture Theatre 6, Lady Shaw Building.

ALL Stand-by test-takers (Lower / Upper Levels): Please go to the Lecture Theatre 1, Lady Shaw Building.

If you are taking the campus transportation to get to the venue, please refer to http://www.cuhk.edu.hk/transport_unit/ for the bus schedule from the University KCRC train station. If you are arriving via private car, please refer to http://www.cuhk.edu.hk/security_unit/eTraffic&Parking.htm for the university¡¦s traffic and parking regulations (taxis are not included in these regulations).


REGISTRATION

Registration begins at 8:30 am on April 17, 2010. Test-takers should line up in front of their assigned testing room with their Photo ID (HKID Card, School ID, or Passport) and the Admission Ticket. The test organizers have the right to refuse admission to test-takers who arrive after the test has begun.

Please note that no test-takers will be admitted into the testing room before 8:30 am. Due to test security policy, only staff and test-takers are allowed to enter the testing room at any time before, during and after the test.

To ensure an efficient and smooth registration and testing process for everyone involved, the test organizers would appreciate if parents and/or other companions could wait outside and avoid blocking the room entrance and registration area. Thank you for your understanding and kind cooperation in this matter.


WHAT TO BRING TO THE TEST

- Admission Ticket
- Photo ID
- HB Pencils (Not 2B)
- Erasers

SSAT CELL PHONE POLICY

For test security, cell phones are NOT permitted in the testing room. Any student who requires a cell phone for emergency purposes MUST turn the phone off and leave the phone with the test proctor during testing. Cell phones will be collected and held by the proctor until all testing has been completed.

Any student observed with a cell phone in their possession during testing will be reported to SSAT and no scores will be processed.


PROHIBITED ITEMS POLICY

The following items are not allowed during the SSAT Examination:
- Bags
- Dictionaries
- Calculators
- Calculator Watches
- Mobile/Cell Phones
- MP3 or other electronic devices
- Rulers
- Papers


Students are recommended NOT to bring the above materials into the test room. Students bringing any prohibited items, including phones, into the exam room will be required to leave these at the front of the room with the test administrator. Such items will only be returned after the end of the entire test.


TEST SCHEDULE

The test consists of 5 separate sections with the following time allotted:

Writing Sample ¡V 25 minutes
Break (approximately 9:35am) ¡V 5 minutes
Section 1: Quantitative ¡V 30 minutes
Section 2: Reading ¡V 40 minutes
Break (approximately 11:00am) ¡V 10 minutes
Section 3:Verbal ¡V 30 minutes
Section 4: Quantitative ¡V 30 minutes
The test will end at approximately 12:45pm.
