U.S. Tertiary Institutions and the New Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education

In the United States, the new Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education is recognized as a positive reflection of Hong Kong¡¦s New Academic System and curriculum reform.

According to Ann White, director, China/Hong Kong, of the Institute of International Education, ¡§US institutions will continue to welcome college and university applications from Hong Kong students for their high level of preparation and academic readiness, aptitude, potential and commitment to succeed.¡¨

¡§What has been accomplished by Hong Kong in the transformation of its education system in such a short amount of time is simply staggering,¡¨ said Judith Eaton, president of the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA).

Peggy Blumenthal, executive vice president of the Institute of International Education, said the revised education system will better prepare Hong Kong students to study at American universities. "This broader foundation will fit well with the U.S. undergraduate-education emphasis on critical thinking and liberal arts," she said.
