What is the GRE test?
The Graduate Record Examinations (GRE) tests are taken by individuals applying to graduate schools. The GRE General Test measures verbal reasoning, quantitative reasoning, critical thinking and analytical writing skills that are not related to any specific field of study.

What is the format of the GRE General Test?
The GRE General Test is offered in two parts in China (including Hong Kong), and Taiwan. The analytical writing section is offered on computer; the Verbal and Quantitative sections are offered at a paper-based administration. Test takers are required to take both the computer-based and paper-based parts of the GRE General Test in the same testing year, and must take the computer-based Analytical Writing portion first.

What is the test content and structure of the GRE General Test ?
Computer-Based Analytical Writing (75 minutes)
- Present Your Perspective on an Issue - 45 minutes
- Analyze an Argument - 30 minutes
Paper-Based Verbal and Quantitative Reasoning (2 hours)
- Verbal (V): two 30-minute sections - 38 questions per section
- Quantitative (Q): two 30-minute sections - 30 questions per section
In addition, an unidentified V or Q section that does not count towards a score may be included. Be sure to complete all V or Q sections since you will not know which ones will be counted as part of your score. Scores on the GRE General Test will not be reported until all three sections of the test have been completed. Scores will be reported within six weeks after the paper-based administration is completed
When are the GRE Analytical Writing and GRE Verbal and Quantitative Tests?
Individuals taking the Analytical Writing section between September 20, 2009 and May 8, 2010 will be registered for the paper-based administration on June 12, 2010.

GRE Subject Tests
What is the format of the GRER Subject Tests?
The GRER Subject Tests are paper-based tests in eight subject areas. Subject Tests measure achievement in specific subject areas and assume undergraduate majors or extensive backgrounds in those disciplines. Testing time is 2 hours and 50 minutes.
