** The "Updated"
TOEIC vs Current TOEIC
In November 2007 an updated
TOEIC test will be administered in Hong Kong. It
is currently available in Japan, Korea, Canada and
the USA. There will be a cross-over period of approx.
18 months where we will be using both this "new"
Test and the Current Test.
The redesigned test (referred to as "New"
by ETS) is the result of a decade of ETS research
on the English language and how people communicate
in practical, everyday circumstances. The research
confirmed the need for assessments that reflect
authentic tasks such as those encountered in the
global business environment. The new test reflects
the work of ETS test development experts in both
measuring how English is actually used in the business
environment and maintaining the score scale of the
current TOEIC test.
It is important to note that the new test has been
slightly altered in structure, but there are many
aspects of the current test that have been carried
through to the new version. The current version
that we have in Hong Kong is still a valid and reliable
method of English Language Assessment, and the scores
of both the current and new test are scaled to the
same standard. A new Official Test Preparation Guide
should be available in late October 2007, which
we will stock for purchase from our office. Keep
checking our site for more information on this development.
