IIE U.S. Higher
Education Fairs
Asia Series - Fall 2010
September
27- October 24, 2010
Open your
doors to thousands of students in Asia!
Asian countries continue
to send the largest number of international students
to American colleges and universities – more than
all other nations combined. Take advantage of this
interest by participating in the U.S. Higher Education
Fairs organized by lIE in 11 selected cities in
6 countries across Asia.
IIE US Higher Education fairs provide a powerful
and cost-effective way for you to establish and
build your presence throughout Asia, and meet with
eager, well-prepared students and very supportive
parents.
The Institute of International Education invites you to participate in the Fall 2010 fairs in Asia.
IIE has
organized Higher Education Fairs across Asia
since 1982. Our established track record and
expertise offer a cost-effective and convenient
way to maximize your school's exposure in
Asia. Schools are welcome to join all fairs
or select the fairs that best fit their travel
schedule and recruitment strategy. Between
fairs, schools are free to work with alumni
or local institutions.
IIE U.S. Higher
Education Fairs benefit both Asian students
and U.S. university and college representatives.
For university and college representatives in
the U.S.:
-
a
well-managed event at reasonable cost
at which they can meet serious prospective
students interested in American higher
education;

to inform them about current factors
influencing the flow of students to
the United States;

of higher education in the United
States from official, reliable, and

A
Country Briefing to orient college and university
representatives with a key info on relevant
topics will aid your understanding of each
higher education market. Topics will be :
the current political and
economic situation in the country
an update on developments
in the local education system
trends on the flow of students
to the United States
information on sponsored scholarship programs and
news about other host countries'
efforts to attract students.
The
channels of promoting the fairs to the public
vary from city to city. Before the fair, IIE
and its partners will publicize the event
through various media, including but not limited
to:
Advertisements in local media (newspapers,
public transport)
Press releases to newspapers and education
websites
Posters and flyers to key officials,
government offices, local and international
high schools, local universities, and
language schools, and emails to students
and parents
Outreach events, EducationUSA advising
centers, IIE's and/or organizer websites
and online discussion forum
IIE
as fair organizers (“We”), reserves the
right in our sole discretion to enforce
the fair guidelines set out on the fair
website in order to maintain the integrity
and safety of our fairs. We reserve the
discretion to refuse entry to the fair venue
to any third-party recruiters or agents.
Should we be alerted to any violation of
our institution representation guidelines
by the presence of such recruiters or agents
during the course of the fair(s), we reserve
the right to require that the recruiter/agent
leave the venue immediately. No refund or
reimbursement will be made to institutions
for any inconvenience caused due to any
violation of the fair guidelines. In case
of a dispute, the decision of the fair organizers
is final.
1.
Only regionally accredited
two-year, four-year, and graduate U.S. institutions
may be represented at the IIE Fairs. English
language and distance learning programs
may only participate if representatives
are prepared to provide information and
answer questions about degree programs on
the campus of the regionally accredited
universities and colleges of which they
are a part.
2.
Institutions may be represented only
by personnel (faculty, staff, or alumni)
sent from the United States, by a faculty
member temporarily residing in Asia on a
research or teaching assignment, or by bona-fide
local alumni with written authorization
from the university to IIE. Official
U.S.-based representatives are best equipped
to speak about the whole institution and
current admissions policies, and carry legitimacy
in speaking with students, parents, and
sponsors. Alumni, on the other hand, have
the advantage of speaking the local language,
which facilitates communication. Alumni
are also some of the best "salespeople"
for your institution because they can add
a palpable extra enthusiasm and affection
for their U.S. experience. Using alumni
to represent your institution also saves
on travel expenses. IIE believes the best
strategy is to have both U.S.-based and
alumni representatives at your table, if
possible. Please note: No more than two representatives may man a table
at any one time during the Fairs.
3. As IIE
promotes direct school-to-student communication,
no third party recruiters may participate.
The
online registration form asks for information
about your fair participation and also information
about your institution that will be published
in Study America, the fair
guide, which is distributed to all students
and visitors at each fair. We suggest you
review the entire form before starting to
complete it to see what information is required.
You will not be able to submit the form
without all the required information.

available on your campus.
Study American
Readership All fairgoers receives a
free copy of the Study America
fair guide. Last year, more than 10,000
students and parents attended IIE's fairs
in Asia, which attract both prospective
undergraduate and graduate students. Students
seek information about nearly every field
of study, but popular subjects now are business
and management, engineering, computer sciences,
and the basic sciences and liberal arts.

The
Official Courier for IIE Higher Education
Fairs in Asia
to download OCS shipping kit.
to download OCS address labels.
OCS will be working with IIE again in 2010
as the official shipper of exhibitor materials
to the IIE fair series. As the IIE fair
official shipper, OCS will keep track of
and store exhibitors’ materials in OCS overseas
stations, and deliver them to the fair venue
one day prior to the event day.
IIE strongly
recommends using OCS as your courier to
ensure customs clearance and safe arrival
directly to the IIE fair venue. Using OCS’s
courier service allows OCS, IIE and you
to track your materials and ensure safe
delivery directly to the venue. Participating
institutions shipping with OCS will not
need to make any international shipments.
Instead, you can forward all your boxes
to the OCS trade fair hub in Boston.
From its Boston
trade fair hub, OCS will take care of the
rest, including address labeling and export
documentation. OCS will pay all duties and
taxes on your behalf overseas and will oversee
customs clearance for you in the receiving
country. Complete shipping instructions
will be emailed to all registered participants
who has chosen to use OCS.
According to the long experience of IIE/Hong
Kong, OCS performs all of these services
seamlessly and automatically for all exhibitors
who choose to ship with OCS. You can always
contact OCS at fairs@shipOCS.com
or call toll-free in the U.S. 1-877-2222-OCS,
or from outside the U.S. - 1-781-933-1130.
Note: for
participants NOT using OCS: Please do NOT ship any materials
to IIE or to fair organizers’ offices. Neither
IIE nor fair organizers, will be able to
assist you to track your shipment before
the fair, or to help on the day of the fair.
If you decide to
use another courier service to ship directly
overseas, note that neither OCS nor IIE
will be able to assist exhibitors to track
or to locate or to assist delivery of shipping
materials. If you have chosen not to use
OCS, it is the responsibility of your carrier
to deliver your materials “door-to-door”
overseas to the fair venue on, or prior
to the fair day. Please make sure your carrier
is able to clear customs in the countries
you ship to, and make sure they can take
care of duty and taxes for you. Please do
NOT ship your materials as “cargo” or “door-to-airport”,
because these services generally do NOT
include customs clearance.
If you ship your fair materials to the hotel
in which you would stay. Please note that
you are responsible for contacting your
hotel to arrange and confirm shipment. Neither
IIE offices nor fair organizers, will be
able to assist you to track or locate delivery
of your shipment, or, to assist if your
packages are delayed in customs or undeliverable
due to improper labeling or other error.
Again, IIE strongly recommends
shipping through OCS to ensure receiving
your shipment to the IIE fair venues on
time.
