Who Attends the Fair?

More than 300 visitors attended the Nagoya Fair in 2006. Visitors are self-sponsored potential undergraduate and graduate students, high school students, their parents, English teachers from Universities, and related agencies.
In the previous Nagoya Fairs, the US exhibitors commented that each student spent a much longer time with the exhibitors for counseling, in comparison with the other fair sites, particularly Tokyo with its high attendance.

Last year’s fair visitors were interested in:

  • Associate degrees 20%
  • Bachelors degrees 37%
  • Masters degrees 40%
  • Doctoral degrees 14%
(Total exceeds 100% as some visitors indicated more than one degree e.g.
    Associate and Bachelors)

Popular courses include:

  • Business
  • Social Science
  • Humanities
  • Arts and Music
  • Science and Tech/Engineering

Important:
Because of increasing legal concerns regarding privacy protection, it is becoming more difficult to collect and release personal information in Japan. However, in response to U.S. exhibitor requests, we will ask Fair visitors for written consent to release their email addresses to exhibitors. A list will be sent to exhibitors approximately one month after the Fairs. Participating schools are still strongly advised to collect personal information from prospective students directly at their booths. (Please note that personal information released to you may not be shared with third parties without additional consent.)

Shipping Information

OCS will be working with IIE again in 2007 as an official shipper of exhibitor materials.
Participating institutions shipping with OCS will not need to make any international shipments.
Instead, all boxes can be forwarded to our OCS trade fair hub in Boston.

From here, OCS will take care of the rest, including address labeling and export documentation.
OCS will pay all duties and taxes on your behalf overseas. You will have no customs clearance worries.
OCS performs all of these services seamlessly and automatically for all exhibitors shipping with OCS.

We will store all exhibitors’ materials in our overseas stations and deliver them on instruction from IIE, direct to the fair venue.

Complete shipping instructions will be emailed to all registered participants.
You can always contact OCS at fairs@shipOCS.com or by calling toll-free in the U.S. 1-877-2222-OCS.

Note: for participants NOT using OCS.

If you decide to use another carrier to ship directly overseas, your ship-to address will be the OCS agency address in each destination country. IIE has requested that OCS in each Fair city receive this type of “direct” freight.

After you register for the fair and complete the proper OCS forms, we will send you instructions on where to send boxes in each city, and what the charges will be.

Please do NOT ship any materials to the offices of IIE or the fair organizers.

It will be the responsibility of your carrier to deliver your materials “door-to-door” overseas to OCS.
Please make sure your carrier is able to clear customs in the countries you ship to, and make sure they can take care of duty and taxes for you. Please do NOT ship your materials as “cargo” or “door-to-airport”, because these services generally do NOT include customs clearance. Neither OCS nor IIE will be able to assist if your packages are delayed in customs or undeliverable due to improper labeling.

Visa Information

United States citizens do not need to obtain visas for a temporary stay up to 90 days in Japan. Visitors may need to explain to the Immigration Official that they are visiting Japan to participate in a free educational exhibition and are not here to earn any income or engage in any paid services. A permit of stay will be granted.

Those who are not U.S. citizens must check with a Japanese consulate in the United States. http://www.mofa.go.jp/j_info/visit/visa/index.html

Travel from "Centrair" Central Japan International Airport to Fair
"Centrair" is less than 1 hour from the Nagoya Fair site.

There are frequent train services from Centrair to Nagoya City, and some hotels have direct shuttle services. From Centrair, the participants are advised to take a “Meitetsu” train to JR Nagoya Station. Nagoya International Center Building is 5-10 minute-walk from the station.

Access from the Airport: http://www.centrair.jp/en/access/ac-from/index.html
Train - Yen 1,200 / 30 minutes
Meitetsu: http://www.meitetsu.co.jp/english/airport-access/index.html

Bus - Yen 1200 /50 minutes
There is airport bus service between the airport and JR Nagoya station, but the service is not frequent.
Taxi - Yen 15,000 / 60 minutes
Since the airport is located about 45km away from the center of the city, taxi fare is not reasonable.

Travel from Nagoya to Tokyo
Those schools that will exhibit in Tokyo after Nagoya may find it most convenient to take the Shinkansen (Bullet Train) from Nagoya to Tokyo Station. The trip takes about 90 minutes and costs is approximately $100.
Train Schedule: http://jr-central.co.jp/eng.nsf/english/timetable/$FILE/Eastbound2007-3.pdf
(This timetable in good only until 6/30/07. Japan Railway companies make semi-annual major revisions of Timetables on 10/1/07. Please refer to the latest timetables after October 1, 2007).

Tokyo participants are advised to travel to Tokyo on Saturday 10/20 upon closing of the Nagoya fair. There are a few hotels near the Tokyo Station. (Marunouchi Hotel / Yaesu Fujiya Hotel) If participants choose to travel on Sunday morning, please try to get on the bullet train by around 7:30 AM. Marunouchi subway line (red line) will take you from Tokyo Station to Ikebukuro, but it may take extra time to get to the venue from the Ikbukuro Station if you have heavy luggage. If you take a taxi from Tokyo Station either to Ikebukuro (venue) or Shinjuku (hotel), the taxi fare will likely be $30-$40 plus about $6 toll if the taxi uses the expressway.
