The Fellowships are available to upper-level undergraduates and postgraduates of Sun Yat-sen University’s Lingnan (University) College, Sun Yat-sen University in Guangzhou and Lingnan University in Hong Kong.

W.T. CHAN FELLOWSHIPS PROGRAM
The W. T. Chan Fellowships Program takes place in the United States in two locations: Los Angeles and Berkeley, California. In Los Angeles, the program is administered by the University of California at Los Angeles BruinCorps. In Berkeley, the program is managed by the University of California - Berkeley Cal Corps.
The primary activity of the W.T. Chan Fellowships Program is the Fellows' work as interns at community organizations in the United States. The UCLA BruinCorps and the UC-Berkeley Cal Corps set up the Fellows’ internship placements at community organizations and organize other program elements, as described below.
The program begins
with an orientation led by UCLA and UC-Berkeley where the Fellows prepare for
their internships as well as adjust to living in the United States. Upon completion
of the orientation, each Fellow is placed in a community organization within
the host city area that addresses a social concern related to his/her interests.
With support and guidance from university staff, each Fellow works in that organization
for the duration of the Fellowship, gaining practical experience in service
work and inter-cultural cooperation.
The UCLA program involves a mandatory academic component where Fellows attend
weekly service-oriented seminars that also seek to engage Fellows in reflection
about their experiences. The Berkeley program involves required reflections.
In addition, all Fellows
are immersed in American communities by living in home-stays or in service-learning
housing.
The Fellowships
run from approximately August 2008 to January 2009. Once a
Fellowship is accepted, the Fellow is expected to participate fully in the Program
during the dates set. Travel home during the Fellowship is not allowed.
得獎學生可於美國社會服務機構實習五至六個月,以吸取社會服務工作的實際經驗及跨國文化的交流經驗。

Lingnan Foundation
The Lingnan Foundation, formerly the Trustees of Lingnan University, was first incorporated in the State of New York in 1893 to support the development of a college in Guangzhou, China, which later became Lingnan University. In 1949, the Arts and Sciences faculties of Lingnan were merged with Zhongshan University, on the former Lingnan campus. From 1954 to 1979, the Trustees conducted their work primarily in Hong Kong and, later, with the college that is now Lingnan University, Hong Kong. In 1980, the Trustees resumed their activities in Guangzhou, principally with Sun Yat-sen (Zhongshan) University and, since 1988, with Sun Yat-sen University's constituent Lingnan (University) College.
The Foundation's ties with institutions and educators in South China, cultivated over decades, are the basis for its programs. The Foundation seeks to draw upon its roots as an institution that incorporates both Chinese and American values and pedagogy and strives to be a catalyst for educational innovation and reform. The Lingnan Foundation's purpose is to contribute to the advancement of higher education in the historic Lingnan region of South China.
